TUSB1064RNQEVM: Compatibility with TUSB1046EVM and Plan to Upgrade?

Part Number: TUSB1064RNQEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982, TUSB1046EVM, , TPS65987D, TPS65987DDKEVM, 10G-EXPANSION-EVM

Tool/software:

Hi,

I am trying to demonstrate a single USB-C cable solution for PD (20V 5A) + DisplayPort + USB2.0. Basically a setup of Source board-Sink board system for proof of concept.

The sink redriver EVM (TUSB1064RNQEVM) is old but still active. It is using TPS65982 (Now superseded by TPS65987D) for USB PD. I am just wondering why TI couldn’t upgrade this sink redriver EVM when you have done it for the source TUSB1046EVM, which uses the latest TPS65987D. Could you please confirm if this old sink redriver EVM is fully compatible with the new source redriver EVM?

And any plan to have an upgrade for TUSB1064RNQEVM so it will equip the TPS65987D?

I thought you might think the above EVMs are focusing on demonstrating the redrivers, so the PD controllers are less important. I have also posted a related thread on the TPS65987DDKEVM alone and its expansion boards (10G-EXPANSION-EVM which seems to be obsolete): TPS65987DDKEVM: EVM Expansion Board - Power management forum - Power management - TI E2E support forums

Thanks!

Ming

  • Hi Ming,

And any plan to have an upgrade for TUSB1064RNQEVM so it will equip the TPS65987D?

The EVM itself and the PD controller are both functional. There are future plans to update the PD controller on the 1064 EVM, but this timeline has not been confirmed yet.

Could you please confirm if this old sink redriver EVM is fully compatible with the new source redriver EVM?

Yes they will both work together.

The 1064 and the 1046  have different PD controllers because they were developed and fabricated at different times.
