TPS23730EVM-093: urge/Burst Testing for PoE Design with TPS23730EVM-093

Part Number: TPS23730EVM-093
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23730

Tool/software:

Hello,

I have a technical question regarding EMC testing for a PoE design using the TPS23730EVM-093 evaluation module.

In my setup, power and data are delivered to the evaluation board via an Ethernet cable from a PoE injector. I have modified the TPS23730EVM-093 board to provide 60W at the output.

I am preparing for EMC tests, specifically surge and burst tests, and would like to understand the correct testing approach in this scenario:

  1. Should the 24V output be tested directly for surge/burst immunity?
  2. Or should I only test the shield of the Ethernet cable?

Your guidance on the correct procedure would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I am currently working on verification. Will be back for E2E support from Jan 20th. Thanks for your patience.

    Best regards,

    Diang

  • Hi David,

You may need to connect to a LISN or other specific tester for EMC testing. The test procedure normally depends on the product's standard while PoE standard does not have a specific requirement for EMC for now.

For testing more information can be found in https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua469/slua469.pdf which is an application note including test example.

Besides, PMP23287 is 24V output version using TPS23730.

    Best regards,

    Diang
