LP877451Q1EVM: GUI tool cannot control the setting

Part Number: LP877451Q1EVM

Tool/software:

Hi,

As title, I try to change the Bcuk channel's vout setting, or disble other channels, but the IC didnt do any action.

And it will go back to default setting even if I change any other option setting.

What's the step i miss?

Thank you!

Ted

  • Hi Ted,

Are you able to perform any read using the GUI? E.g. following EVM user's guide https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snvu769 section 4.2 GUI Installation and Working with the GUI, it mentions that by default all config registers are locked and CRC protected. Did you click Unlock registers and clear the CRC as it mentions? Are you able to read All registers on the Register Map page?

    Regards,

    Katie

  • Hi Katie,

Is this setting right? If yes, it still cannot work normally.

and the register bit or GUI options will jump back to the default setting automatically.

    Thank you!

    Ted

  • Can you share with screen captures or short recording exactly how you are attempting to perform the write/update, step-by-step? This will help us see what is happening.

    Thank you for your help~

  • Hi Ted,

Before changing the Vout default settings, first make sure the registers are unlocked and make sure the watchdog is disabled. Probably the watchdog gets out of long window and the device gets repeatedly reset if the WD is not answered.

General power up instruction to follow.

    1. Power up the device and make sure the GUI gets connected successfully.

    2. Try to disable the watchdog from GUI in "Watchdog and other " tab. Uncheck the WD reset enable and enable and check the hold on and return to longwindow options. Below is screen capture for normally enabled WD condition.

    3. Try to clear all interrupts.

    4. Now try to change the Vout voltage. Remember if you do any changes to registers from 0x15 to 0x44 then you need to mask the CRC config as well before doing any changes.

If you are still unable to do it let us know.

  • Hi ,

Thank you for you help, it works.

But, there is another problem occur, when I do your action step, and I disabled the power channel Buck1->Buck3->LDO->BOOST serises step, the GUI cannot be controlled and no action when I click any button include "unlock the register". and also BOOST channel still cannot be disabled.

Eventually, the channels waveform on scope still stay Buck2 and BOOST on.

  • Hi Ted,

That's because you are disabling the VIO supply which comes from VIO_LDO through BOOST.

You need to provide VIO supply externally  if you plan to disable BOOST or VIO_LDO. The SPI communication block gets supply from VIO voltage.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your suppor!

How about "Enable Spread Spectrum" item, it has the same problem which cannot be commanded sucessfully. It has gating for what's function?

  • Hi Ted,

Enabling Spread Spectrum should not cause issue if you are first masking the config CRC registers. If you are not masking them then you will get Orderly shutdown of rails as soon as you try to enable SS.

In GUI, "Interrupts" section, Mask the register CRC following below step.

    After clearing all the interrupts

    1. Mask first "CONFIG_CRC_MASK" and read registers

    2. Then Mask "TRIM_TEST_CRC_MASK" and read registers

After that enable the SS.  Let me know if the issue is different than this because to my understating you might be getting issue with enabling SS because of CRC error.

  • Hi

it works. But, I would like to know what's the function for "Clock generator" and "Use external clock" ? because I dont know which choose for PMIC operating itself. PMIC's spread spectrum cannot be affected by other clock source from other IC on the EVM.

By the way, I only see total 4 option clock, it does now show the 17.6MHz or higher clock options. The reason is?

    Thank you!

    Ted

  • Hello Ted,

Please refer to "7.3.1.3 Sync Clock Functionality" section in DS for explanation on why it is used.

    Regards,

    Ishtiaque

  • Hi Ishtiaque,

I only have the brief DS from TI website. I cannot check the section you said.

Could you do the simple explanation?

    Sincerely,

    Ted

  • Hi,

You need to have full DS and It is NDA information and I cannot explain it. Thanks!

    Regards,

    Ishtiaque

  • Hi Ted,

Full datasheet is only available under NDA.
