BQ34Z100-R2: When is the CHG bit set to 1?

Part Number: BQ34Z100-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQ25756, GPCCHEM

Tool/software:

We use a BQ34Z100 in a system with a charger (BQ25756) and have seen the CHG bit reset (go low) when tapering happens upon a successful full-charge.

However, we have no clear idea on when CHG will be set (go high). What exact conditions will allow it to be set? Asking to see if we can use this flag reliably to control the charger enable bit to keep the battery in relaxed state and avoid overcharging or keeping it high at Termination Voltage at all times.

  • Hello Ali Al-Sheikh,

There could be many things going on with your system,  If you are avoiding overcharging than I recommend looking at the OT registers. In terms of termination voltage the CHG bit will go high reliably and be turned on, also I would check to see your setting in the taper registers to make sure it is within bounds within your system. Also, could you send a log data file of when the CHG bit goes low and when the CHG bit goes high during a successful full charge to compared what happens during each event to see what data registers you need to change in the data memory tab. Lastly as a good measure I would verified that the ChemID has a low difference error from the GPCCHEM calculator.

    Thank you,
