Tool/software:

Hi TI support team,

We are using BQ25798 with TPS25750.

We need to let our customers to replace the battery, is it ok to add a Hot Swap IC for 3 cell battery on BQ25798 pins 22 and 23? If yes, can you please recommend Hot Swap IC?

Thank you.

DK.

  • Hi DK,

The BQ25798 will not be damaged when hot swapping a 3S battery because pins 22 and 23 are rated for 20V.   If charge is not disabled from CE pin or bit or TS fault after battery removal, the charger does still report OVP.  For maximum but likely unneeded voltage protection, if a shipFET is attached, a 33-47nF capacitor can be added at BATP pin.  Or if no shipFET, a TVS diode can be added.

Some customers use an eFuses or hot swamp controllers for current limiting but I do not support those.  So I will move this post to that team.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Danny,

They can consider TPS25948 eFuse. This is a bi-directional eFuse with 23V/8A operating capabilities. This will also provide current limiting capabilities for IN-OUT path.

Let me know if you have any other specific question.

    Best Regards,
    Arush
