Hi Flaco,

For bq40z50, it is not possible for the LED to be turned on directly by observing a discharge, a transition on the DISP pin will need to be observed. The LED Hold Time can be extended to allow the LED to turn on longer, but a transition on the DISP pin is still needed.

Can I map the EMSHUT event to the DISP pin? This would be a way to keep the LEDs on while the battery is connected to the PACK+.

It seems if you connect the DISP and the SHUTDN pin together you can trigger each event with a single button action, however if you are wanting to link the EMSHUT with the manufacture commands with the DISP pin than it would need to somehow pull to ground in order to trigger the DISP pin. Please reference the TRM for more information on this actions..

Thank you very much for answering my questions. I understand that I can't keep the LEDs on while the battery is in discharge mode with the BQ40Z50.
Can you recommend another similar chip that can do this?
I need to be able to illuminate the LEDs when the PACK+ is connected to the battery as an indication that the battery is ready to deliver power, as well as being able to disconnect and reconnect the PACK+.

I currently control SHUTDN and DISP with a single button.
I've seen similar applications with Ti chips that can do this, which I think is an interesting feature and we want to include it in our design.

This is dependent on your cell pack configuration but what you could also do is drive the LED with the host and turn on the battery power based on whichever register you want too that the battery gauge communicate with the host.
