BQ76952: BQ76952 support the design of MOSFET-S link?

Part Number: BQ76952

Tool/software:

HI

my company has a design requirement that requires the use of BQ76952 -MOSFET-S link.

Could you please advise if such a design is supported?

The specification document showcases MOSFET-D link   design.

MOS-S link  whether support or not

Does it have any additional risks?Could you please explain in detail?

Sincere thanks to you

  • No the BQ76952 does not support a common source configuration, due to the voltage driven onto CHG when FETs are disabled and a load is still attached at PACK+. In addition the part has a body-diode protection feature which may not work properly if the source/drain are swapped. Given this all our test has been done with the drain tied together, and we have not tested this configuration, we cannot guaranteed it will work as intended and recommend to stay with our recommendation.

One good resource is to look into the multiple FETs app note "Multiple FETs with the BQ769x2 Battery Monitors" which provide different parallel configurations that might help with the thermal requirements.

For a more detailed discussion on this topic I have linked a useful thread below:

  • Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you.

I will refer to the linked article and consider whether we can avoid any unexpected situations.
