TPSM64406: Creating positive and neg rail from 12V

Hey Team,

I'm from the Medical SEM team and I'm working on a custom board for a customer. We want to use the TPSM64406 on this board, and I'm wondering if it would be possible to make +6 / -6 power rails with this part. I saw that it mentions "Negative output voltage capability".

I was trying to make a custom design using the WEBENCH Power Designer tool, but it didn't look like the TPSM64406 was available for support on their.

Could you give me some assistance here please?

Conditions:
Vin = 12V
Vout1 = +6V @ 2A
Vout2 = -6V @ 2A

Hello

You would not be able to get both + and - supplies from the one module.

To get negative output you need to configure as an IBB.

In that case the "gnd" becomes the negative output.

Since the grounds of the module are all the same, you would not be able to get both + and - outputs.

You will need to use two separate modules or converters.

Hey Frank!

Thank you for your help with understanding that I have to get a negative voltage out of the TPSM64406 by using it as an IBB.

I put this together on Friday, and I wanted to use this same forum to ask if this schematic looks correct for getting a -6V rail out?

Hello

You will also need some capacitance between the input rail and the negative output rail.

You can use some of the input capacitance you have now.

I have attached an application note that may be helpful.

I will assign this post to the E2E engineers for this month.

Thanks for sending the app note, I appreciate it and your help on this.

I have this schematic now, with that capacitance between the input rail and neg output rail now.

I was wondering if the output was correct with bout Vouts going to gnd and the config pin being brought to the neg rail with a 0 ohm?

Also is it still fine to set the EN pin the way that I did?
