TPS61021A: PFM is the audio band

Part Number: TPS61021A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61299

Tool/software:

Hello

Looking for advise on using the TPS61021A in low current loads. The regulator enters the PFM mode. This PFM is in the audio band. Is there any modification to the supporting circuitry to push the PFM out of the audio band, other than changing the current load. Are there any other switching regulators that has similar efficiency operating from one battery cell that do not PFM in the audio band.

  • Hi,

Do you care about the efficiency under light load? And what's your application test condition? Like Vin range, Vo and Io range? You may need to choose another device with MODE pin to switch to PFWM mode under light load. But I need to suggest a suitable device refer to your application.

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

  • Hello yes efficiency is important under light loads. Vin 1.0 Vdc, Vout 3.3 Vdc, current range 4ma to 100ma.

  • Hi,

Generally speaking, high efficiency at light load and a light load frequency greater than 20kHz are contradictory. From an application perspective, I would recommend TPS61299 for your application. Did you hear any noise during the actual test? If not, and you prefer light load and high efficiency, I don't recommend choosing a product with FPWM mode.

Looking forward to your reply.  Thanks.
