The LP5860 Evaluation software states that the USB2Any device is connected. 
If I then connect over I2C or SPI I can hit enable and it stays green but as soon as I do anything else the enable icon returns to grey. 

If I just try to set register values such as global brightness directly or via the drop down options they return to 0.

Can you capture the waveform for SCL and SDA pin to double check if the ACK bit is received? Please also take a photo for this EVM, so that we can check if the hardware connection(jumper) is right.

So here is the output from my logic analyser which I can't help but feel is odd given that the LP586x tool says the hardware is not even connected? 

I have 5V on the VLED EXT pin.

Thanks for reaching out again.

The controller (USB2ANY) is trying to read data from the LP55860EVM to build the connection. That's why you see there is communication even the GUI shows not connected.

In order to find the reason why the connection is failed, could you help to check if the jumpers setting on J5/6/7 are as shown below? and to measure the voltage on the VCAP terminal? The voltage on the VCAP should be about 1.8V once the EN is pulled high, which indicate the chip is powered well.
