The system does not include a battery and is basically intended to operate in Sink mode.
I would like to know whether there is any hardware method to switch the device to Source mode.
According to the related thread, when no power is supplied to VIN_3V3 and power is available on VBUS, the device recognizes a dead-battery condition and operates as a Sink.
In this case, can the device be switched to Source role simply by supplying power to VIN_3V3?

The specific dead battery behavior you can set is actually related to the ADCIN configuration:
You can set it so that the PD controller defaults to "SafeMode" and does not enable the power path until a contract is negotiated. In the GUI configuration you can set the preferred power role to "Source" so that when you do get out of dead battery configuration, you would be in source mode.
Could you help us understand what the system voltage requirements are here? Would the limit be 5V or is there a need for higher voltages?
Is your system ever going to be powered versus an external power source (such as a barrel jack)?
