[ TLC59116 ] Use Case

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59116, TLC59116F

Hi,

Since my customer has been evaluating both TLC59116 and TLC59116F for their development and recently change their board configuration, he comes up with an idea of attached circuit ideas.

Can you please check his idea together with some questions?

---

Q1:

Since customer does not like to have large current on the wire between boards, they would like to use above circuit. Can TLC59116 accept this kind of configuration?

(Do you recommend to use TLC59116F instead?

Q2:

If above configuration is feasible, any idea to define resistor value for REXT pin?

Q3:

What is the internal equivalent circuit of OUTx pin? Open drain?

Thank you for your support in advance.

  • Ken,

I would definitely recommend the TLC59116F (open-drain) version.  The TLC59116 constant current version would result in a VOUT based on the resistor to the 12V node.  The resulting voltage may not  be sufficient to turn on the transistor in series with the LED. I have not verified this method on the bench, but I believe the TLC59116F will work as expected.

Since you will be using the TLC59116F, there is no  REXT.

    Regards,

    Dick
