BQ28Z610EVM-532: how to discharge BQ28Z610

Part Number: BQ28Z610EVM-532
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

hi,

I have follow the

How to use the bq28z610 EVM available at https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/t/551498 with EV2300 and the kit manage to charge up the battery.

However, when I remove the power supply and I expect the fully charge battery to kick in and continue to supply to the evaluation board so that I can continue to use the BQstudio to monitor the discharge. What I saw is the I2C connection is disconnected and Bqstudio is not able to detect the eval board? My question is why the fully charge battery cannot use to supply the power to use the eval board? Can I do this?

If cannot, how do I monitor the discharge?

On my own PCB board, I received the error 1470 when I try to program the chemistry. how do I get rid of this message?

Best regards,
Kpk

  • Hi, Kpk,

Please read the "Parameter setup" from User Guide and try again after change the setting matching with your battery pack.

    Parameter setup
The default data flash default settings is configured for 2-series Li-Ion cells. The user should change
the | Data Memory | Settings | DA Configuration register to set up the number of series cells to match
the physical pack configuration by clearing the CCO flag for 1-series configuration or setting it for 2-
series configuration. This provides basic functionality to the setup.

    Thanks!

  • hi Phil,

how about the error message 1470?

On my own PCB board, I received the error 1470 when I try to program the chemistry. how do I get rid of this message?

  • hi Phil,

Need your help for the following:
    1. How to clear the error message 1470, should I change the IC on my custom PCB board?
    2. On the BQ28Z610evm-532 board, I managed to let it discharge after update to latest firmware. thx
    3. Can I know how to set the voltage trigger point? What I need is when the voltage fall below certain voltage, I would like to trigger the MCU.

    4. When the battery voltage is flat, I noticed the BQstudio is not able to automatically detect the BQ28Z610evm board via I2C. Even I let the battery to slowly charge up to the 3.2v (full charge), the only way to re-establish the connection is to press the SW1 on the eval board. However, if the battery voltage is above the operating range, I noticed the BQstudio is able to auto detect the I2C connection when it detect the voltage supply. I would like to know, if there is a way to let it autodetect without pressing the SW1. Main reason is because on my custom board which suppose to place a remote area (not accessible by human), it is impossible to have someone to press the SW1 to trigger the reconnection. Any advice?

    5. On BQstudio Dashboard, the fuel gauge always show 100% even the battery already fully discharge. how do I update the dashboard to show 0% when fully discharge?

    6. Do you have any user guide to show me step by step on what are the register I need to change on data memory content screen. Too many unknown parameters inside, not very sure which one to change. E.g: on Data Memory-> Protections page, what are the meaning of CUV, COV, OCC, OCD? any guide on that?

    7. on Calibration page, what is the meaning of Current calibration value? is that referring to load current or charging current?

    best regards,
    kpk
