TPS53014: Could you tell me about TPS53014's "Over Current Limit"?

Part Number: TPS53014

Hi, team.

My customers are considering TPS53014 under the following specifications.

Specification:12V_Input⇒0.9V/12.5A_Output

Since I have received a question about the description of the current limit setting of this product,please support.

<Background>

The current limit setting value is considered by referring to the description of data sheet p 8 "OVER CURRENT LIMIT".

Because there is a requirement that the customer wants to use the familiar product (externally attached FET) Ron is determined by a fixed value.

Therefore, I want to adjust the current limit value with Vtrip value.

<Question>

Could you tell me any of the following?

(If you have a disadvantage using resistance values other than those listed in Datasheet, please tell me, it will be helpful if you let me know the reason.)

・Calculation method of Vtirp described in Datasheet (calculation formula)

・Or, create a graph in Excel from "Table.2 OCL setup resister table" data,can we get an approximate expression from the graph and reply as Vtrip calculation formula?

・Is it possible to present data between 11 KΩ and 18 KΩ?(12 KΩ, 13 KΩ ...etc:1kΩ step)

Could you help me?

Best regards,

Masumi Sekiguchi

  • TPS53014_Rtrip.xlsxThe enclosed spreadsheet graphs the Table 1 data.  Included is the polynomial curve match equation.  From that expression you can calculate any intermediate Vtrip fro any Rtrip.

  • Thank you very much, John-san.

    ・Based on this data, is it OK to set the resistance value data to not exist point?
     (For example: set Vtrip with any resistance value between 11 kΩ and 18 kΩ etc.)

    ・Also, are you OK to develop this approximate expression to customers?
    ※Of course, I will describe the comment "Please handle as reference value".

    Best regards,

  • I think it is ok. I have not checked it yet. If you need this answered with certainty, it may take a bit of time. I may need to check it in the lab.
  • Thank you very much for answering.

    By being measured in the lab, I think that customers will use it with confidence.
    Therefore, so can you measure it in the laboratory?(I will wait it a few days)

    ※The schedule is approaching as the situation of the customer, if you can verify the actual data at your company, you will feel it merit in terms of service.
