In December 2016 I have a great help from Thomas Cosby from TI in this forum and on the same issue!

Now I will make four more monitor units based on the bq34z100EVM (Farnell 2334116) as I used before!

But I have big problems to calibrate the board from the software tool.

I have attach the list of screens dumps I see when I try to make the connection to the board!

As you can see from the attach pdf. I got a lots of errors messages, but have communication with the board!

Why all these errors and why can I not measure the current?

I have attached the setup file (DPEactive.txt) I have used back in December 2016!

Will it be better to change the controller to the new generation (bq34z100-G1) and use the other software tool BM-studio?

 Please help me out on this as I have tried every think now

  • Hi Niels,
    Chips are the same. No hardware change. Just firmware is different. Link to the new firmware below

    Once you start after installing bqstudio, if it doesn't automatically detect the device, select the the b34z100-g1 from the list of devices, go to the firmware tab of the tool, select the firmware where you stored it on your computer and then hit the program button.

    Install the new FW and run the bqstudio went fine and the communication works!

    But I miss a user guide for setting my battery data in the bqstudio, where can I find this?

    Can I install my old setup file DPEactive.gg or shall I do this manual and how?

  • Hi Niels,
    Follow these steps
    -indentify your chem id using gpcchem. Instructions are straightforward and easy to follow.
    -program the obtained chem id and Configure the data flash following the data sheet.
    -Perform a learning cycle and then
    -Extract your golden srec or bqfs or dffs.

    Let me know if you have questions on any of these steps

    I can read and calibrate the board now!
    When I need the 4LED (in the end of the PCB) to indicate the SOC with 25% steps, do I still need to converte to HDQ mode as I did in the past with the old setup?

  • Hi Onyx,

    I can now read all parameters in the bqstudio including the Ah counter when I charge and discharge the battery, but I can not see the correct value of the Ah level at the foure LED A-D!

    I have convert from I2C to HDQ and have made a power cycle of the EVB, but still I only have LED A-B active when I have 100% SOC on the bqstudio monitor!

    In the old vesion I had set the register LED_comm configuation to F3, but how can this be set in the new version?

    I have attach the current setup file, please advice if you can see any problem in this!

    I had some problems with calibrating the voltage, but it seem to work now!

    I must admit I find it very hard to work with this EV-board, with a very poor documentation for the setup procedure.

    A updated documentation will be appreciated :-)
