LM5112: Mosfet Driver current consumption when vcc under the UVLO limit?

Part Number: LM5112
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27518, UCC27519

I am designing a board and the layout is very tight. I am using the LM5112 mosfet driver which has a supply current of 1-2mA. Which is a lot in a battery powered device unless I can turn it off. But I don't have much space on board as I would need a high side switch to turn it off. So I was thinking, could I just use the Under voltage lockout function as is written in the datasheet, as I can adjust the voltage of the regulator supplying the board vcc. If I choose a voltage of 2.5V, then it should be under the UVLO limit and it is written in the datasheet:

"When the VCC to IN_REF voltage difference falls below 2.8 V the driver is disabled and the output pin is held in the low state"

But nowhere I find information on the current consumption, does this disabling of driver really mean that the current consumption drops dramatically or that it just doesn't do anything but still consumes same current?

  • Hi Ville,

The UVLO circuitry may not put the device into a low-power state. For example, it pulls the gate of the mosfet low, so this will result in some current consumption.

If you need an enable pin, I suggest you look at one of our products that includes it:

Something like UCC27518 or UCC27519 seems like it would meet you needs?

    Let me know your thoughts.
