TPS4H000-Q1: Current limit value issue

Part Number: TPS4H000-Q1

Hi,

In my design, I need a current limit value of 400mA. Following the formula in the datasheet, RCL = (VCL(th) * K(CL)) / Iout, I need a RCL = 600 Ohms (see the design below). However, the current limitation is between 500-500mA on my 3 prototype PCB. This is over the rated ±15% accuracy in the datasheet. I am doing something wrong ?

Also, I have noticed this note for the Vcl(th) : Value specified by design, not subject to production test. What it is supposed to means? The value is subject to change between each IC ?

Thanks for your help, Mathieu.

  • Hello,

sorry for the delay! I was not able to open the link last week. It is normal that the peak current is higher than the datasheet limits when slowly increment the load current. I have attached a detail explanation.

The VCL is a band gap reference and should have small  variation from device to device. The variation is included in the tolerances mentioned in the spec.
