LM1084: LM1084: How to connect Vout (package tab) - Tie to OUTPUT pin?

My customer has a quick question about a linear regulator:  LM1084 in the TO-263 package.

Should the OUTPUT pin and Vout pin (tab) be tied together? It is not very clear in the datasheet or layout example. LM1084 Package Info.docx

    Hi David,

    The tab and  middle pin (both OUTPUT) are electrically connected; however, we recommend that the pin be connected to the tab by a trace for best performance similar to what is done in section 10.2 of the datasheet.
