TPS61178: ILIMIT pin resistor value range

Could you tell me the ILIMIT pin resistor value range which we can set.

I would like to know the lowest current limit threshold value (maximum resistor value) which we can set.

According to WEBENCH, it was 0.187A.

  • We don't specify the lowest current limit. however, the accuracy would be very bad if the current limit is too low.
    what is the application condition? what do you want to set the current limit to very low.

    Using condition is 12Vin, 15Vout, 0.1A.
    Our customer requires small size solution and FPWM operation. So they don't want to use non-synchronous device, and they want to make inductor size small by setting current limit to low level.
    It is best if TPS61178 can set current limit value down to about 1A.
    And I would like to know the current limit threshold accuracy if it is different due to setting value. Reference value is OK, we don't require guaranteed value.

  • from the datasheet, the current limit is 5.4A~8.4A if the mean value is 7.2A. there is 1.8A between the typical value and minimum value. if you need 1A minimum current limit, you need to set the typical value to 2.8A.

    Thank you for your answer.
    On the datsheet, current limit threshold is min 5.7A, typ 7.4, max 8.7A.
    So I think we need to set the threshold typ value 2.7A if we need 1A minimum current limit.

    I understood than there is no minimum limit value, however the accuracy becomes very bad.

  • i agree. for your application, we should be a small current boost. it is not suitable to use TPS611781.
    Any reason that customer don't want non synchronous?
  • The reason which our customer requires non-synchronous and FPWM operation is requirement of small solution size and for noise effective.
