TPS2492: Protect the TPS2492 against reverse polarity.

Part Number: TPS2492
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069,

I saw the previous post asking about reverse polarity protection with the TPS2492 and the response suggesting use of the LM5069 instead.  Is there a fundamental reason the TPS2492 cannot be configured in the same way as the LM5069 to prevent reverse polarity?  I want to use the TPS2492 because it has lower quiescent current, analog current sensing, and a stronger gate pull-down current in the case of a hard short, but I'd like to know if that choice means I will not be able to do reverse polarity protection.

The 249x can be used for reverse polarity.  See attached app note.  The LM5069 has a similar app note.  Both devices competed against one another when National Semi was not part of TI.  There is a quirk with the TPS 249x UVLO when operating near Vin nominal that the LM5069 doesn't have.  In general, the LM5069 is preferred over the TPS device.  You are correct about the pull down, which can be important in cases where short and source Z is very low when protecting against shorted output.  Faster pull down keeps I-in from continuing to rise and pulling the Vin buss down as much.
