BQ25601: Schematics Review

Part Number: BQ25601

Dear Team,

Please find the Circuit schematics of Battery management IC (BQ25601) enclosed within.

Request you to review the same and let us know your feedback.

Thanks and Regards,

  • Feedback as below:

    1. SDA and SCL pull-up resistors are missing

    2. PSEL can be tied to REGN and change IINDPM resistor by I2C according to adaptor detection. If no adaptor detection, tied to GND is also OK.

  • Dear Hong Mao,

    Thank you for quick response.

    1) We will provide the pull up for I2C.

    2) We will connect the PSEL to REGN using optional 10K resistor. Is it okay?

    Regards,

    Nibin

  • Hi, NIBIN S!
    1. SDA and SCL should be connected to VCC_3V3 through a 10-K resistor.
    2. PSEL can be connected to GND directly, so R1021 can be removed.
    3. It's recommended that placing a LED between VCC_3V3 and STAT.
  • Dear Naizeng Wang,

Thank you for the quick response.

We will take care of the suggestions as in point 1 and 2.

For point 3, is it mandatory to place LED?

    Regards,
    Nibin
  • Dear NIBIN S,
    It's not mandatory.
  • Pull PSEL to GND is OK if you do not detect adaptor type.

  • Dear Hong Mao and Naizeng Wang,

    Thank you for the support.

    Regards,

    Nibin

  • Dear Hong Mao and Naizeng Wang,

Please let us know what need to be taken care for QON pin.

We are not providing any external switch. Please support with suggestions.

    Regards,
    Nibin
  • Dear NIBIN,

The QON pin incorporates two functions to control BATFET.

    1. BATFET Enable: A QON logic transition from high to low with longer than tSHIPMODE deglitch turns on BATFET and exit shipping mode.

One of the following events can also enable BATFET:

    (1). Plug in adapter

    (2). Clear BATFET_DIS bit

(3). Set REG_RST bit to reset all registers including BATFET_DIS bit to default (0)

    2. BATFET Reset: When QON is driven to logic low by at least tQON_RST while adapter is not plugged in (and BATFET_DIS = 0), the BATFET is turned off for

tQON_RST. The BATFET is re-enabled after tBATFET_RST duration. This function allows systems connected to SYS to have power-on-reset.

  • Dear Naizeng Wang,

Instead of using a external switch for QON, can we take care of the shipment mode through software (Clear BATFET_DIS bit)?

After the shipped devices are received, what exactly need to be taken care in such case (through software, as there is no external switch).

    Regards,

    Nibin

  • Dear NIBIN,

When there is no external switch for QON, you can only exit shipping mode by plugging in adapter.

Reason:In shipping mode, the BATFET is disabled, so battery can't provide power for bq25601. If you don't provide power through adapter, the software won't work.

  • Nibin:

You can do either way. However, your system is usually supplied by SYS, so when the charger is in shipping mode, the host lost power and cannot communicate to the charger. In this case, you need to press QON button or plug in an adaptor.

When the BATFET is disabled (in shipping mode) and indicated by setting BATFET_DIS, one of the following

events can enable BATFET to restore system power:

    1. Plug in adapter

    2. Clear BATFET_DIS bit

    3. Set REG_RST bit to reset all registers including BATFET_DIS bit to default (0)

    4. A logic high to low transition on QON pin with tSHIPMODE deglitch time to enable BATFET to exit shipping
