BQ78350-R1: AOLD & AOLDL alarm

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

Hello,

I am using the Gauge on a 15s 5p setup. I have my OCD set to -20000 mAh and am trying to discharge my pack at around 10000 mA. But, before I can even get to 10000 mA discharge is being disabled due to AOLD and ASCD. I have tried setting the threshold to as high as possible just to check and see if it works and I still get it discharge disabled.ti question.docx

  • Hi Kyle,

There are multiple current based protections for bq78350. The OCD is a software based protection with slower programmable reaction times. AOLD and ASCD are hardware based protections that are able to react faster to more higher magnitude currents. The picture below illustrates an example overcurrent protection scheme (this does not apply directly to this device but gives the overall idea).

It looks like your setting for AOLD is 50mV. I am not sure what value sense resistor you are using, but you can increase this value up to 100mV by setting RSNS=1 (this is Bit8 in the ASCD Threshold and Delay setting. You can also incread the delays for both AOLD and ASCD which are currently set to the lowest setting.

    Best regards,

    Matt
