TPS54521 schematics review

Hi all,

We are designing power supplies for +5V and +3V3 from +12V input.

Could some one take a look on the design as attached schematics page? We have concerns on compensation networks, because not be familiar with how to calculate R/C values4682.page 14.pdf.

Thanks

  • At first glance, these look good.  I cannot check the compensation unless I have the part number for the output caps, C168 and C169.  Can you provide the part numbers for those?

Do all the caps have a dielectric of X5R or better?  Without a good quality dielectric, their value will vary considerably.  Z5U or Y5V are not recommended for power supplies.

Also, any capacitance that you have on the 3.3V or 5V rails downstream will affect the loop and compensation.  In other words, do you have any capacitors connected to 5V or 3.3V on another page of your schematic?  If so, please provide the values.

I saw that you also posted a question about a linear regulator--one of my colleagues can review that later this week.  Is there anything else in your system that you need help with?  TI has a huge portfolio with solutions for audio, interface, power, RF, etc.
