TPS40040: TPS40040 inquire output spec 40A/2.8v

Dear,

our client want to design a buck controller as the spec below:

Vin:3.8V

Vout:2.8V

Iout:40A

1. Why the current limit is 15A in TI.com

2. Is TPS40040 can change MOSFET and inductor to meet output spec 40A/2.8V?

3. If can not support to 40A, is there any suggestion, Please advise me.

    What is the target efficiency? It is quite challenging design spec because of the low input voltage for such high current.
    Would a bias voltage rail be available such as 5V to be able to drive the fet with 5V drive. Much better efficiency. To answer the question directly there are other controllers with ability to have a 5V bias for gate drive and with higher gate drive strength that would be a better choice. Based on your response I can give some suggestions.

    Please check LM2745 and LM2748. Friendly with external bias. Operate at 300kHz and with the right fets this could be a viable solution.

    If the customer has any specific Fets they want to use let me know, if not I will do a spreadsheet for this application with efficiency and they can check if its acceptable.
