Dear Greetings,

I am examining TPS2511-Q1 for USB charger of vehicle.

I have some questions.

1. When I checked EVM, Rilim is applied 1/10W(1608 size).

Should I apply 1608 size for Rilim?

2. When I checked document of SLVA800(Effective system ESD protection guidelines), Ferrite Bead was applied(figure 4) 2012 size for D+ and D-.

Why there are applying 2012 size?

3. I checked protocol of TPS2511.

What is mean Divider mode?

4. When I short test of USB lines(VBUS, D+, D-, GND), is there some document about test result?

Short test condition as below.

+12V to VBUS,

+12V to D+,

+12V to D-,

+12V to GND

Please help for these.

Hi, Jeongtae Park,

1. You can apply 1608 size or any other size, it doesn't matter.
2. It depends on your layout. The size don't have much influence.
3. Divider mode means special DCP mode for Apple device and Samsung. As you know, DCP mode defined by USB-IF just allow 1.5A max charging current. Samsung and Apple defined their own DCP mode for max 2.4A charging current, we call it DCP divider mode.
4. The Abs max voltage on those pin of TPS2511 is 7V, so 12V will damaged TPS2511. I suggest you to add TVS diode for this case.

2. What is the impedance of BEAD?

1. The voltage on ILIM pin is below 1V.
2. I am not clear about the app note.

Hi, JT Park,

Sorry I can't contact with the author of the apps note. You can know the common chock value from the apps note, just choose a bead from the common chock. The theory is same.
