UCC2897A: QFN Layout for PGND and GND

Part Number: UCC2897A

Hello Team,

In UCC2897A leaded package layout for PGND and GND, a net tie is required as addressed in the layout guidelines. For QFN package PGND and GND pins layout, should I directly connect the two grounds to its thermal pad?

Thank you.

Regards,

Ting

  • Hello Ting,
The recommendation is to use a single point connection for PGND and GND.
You can connect the two grounds to the thermal pad but you need to ensure that the PGND currents from the power switching devices return directly to the input power source.
This is the same requirement in any switching power supply. Power should be routed separately from low level control signals and connected together at a single point.
If all this is done properly then there will be no significant current flowing in the single point connection or the thermal pad.

    Regards
    John
