BQ76PL455A-Q1: Looking for some help to get started on debugging and configuration.

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A, BQ76PL455EVM

Hello everyone,

My name is Miguel and I am developing a custom made PCB based on the BQ76PL455A-Q1 IC for the management of some custom LiPo cells (for a student project).

This PCB design is mostly based on the suggestions and examples given in the corresponding datasheet. I just finished with the electronic revision of the first prototype I've developed (already finished populating the PCB). Therefore, I have proceeded to connect just the Master Board via UART, providing the required VIO 3.3V supply and tried sending some example command for auto-address learning. I have also connected the 8 cells I will be monitoring per IC, and left them plugged for 10 minutes.

I have two main questions:

- I can't really find in your documentation any procedure as to how to start with the debugging of the electronics (the GUI is only valid for the EVM I guess) so I am not really sure how to proceed for testing of the PCB. Any recommendation or suggestion is welcome.

-There seems to be a bit of overheating right away from the balancing resistors. I have used the suggested FET and a 51 ohm resistor with 0.5W expecting around 100mA current. I am wondering if there's any report of this event and if there's any recommendations for improvements.

Thank you very much and feel free to ask any questions or message me privately.

Best regards and have a nice day,

Miguel Angel Quero
