BQ25898: AUTO_DPDM_EN functional differences

Part Number: BQ25898

Hello,

Our customer ask about the functional or performance differences between AUTO_DPDM_EN=0 and AUTO_DPDM_EN=1.

Would you let us know any other functional or performance differences is appeared if AUTO_DPDM_EN setting.

best regards,

  • Hi,

In general, this bit is for input source adaptor current rating detection. BQ25898D will use D+ and D- pin for handshaking.

    • When an input source is plugged in, the device checks the input source voltage to turn on REGN LDO and all the bias circuits. It detects and sets the input current limit before the buck converter is started when AUTO_DPDM_EN=1

    • When AUTO_DPDM_EN=0, the Input Source Type Detection is bypassed. The Input Current Limit (IINLIM) register, VBUS_STAT, and SPD_STAT bits are unchanged from previous values

As for Input Source Type Detection, please read datasheet page 18

9.2.3.3.1 D+/D– Detection Sets Input Current Limit (bq25898D)

    Thanks

  • Thank you. I understand that AUTO_DPDM_EN function is just activated only when the bq25898 starts up from an input source and is not affected to any other function after power up. I have put the AUTO_DPDM_EN function in below, so correct me if my understanding is incorrect.

    best regards,

  • Hi
After checking your procedure, I think it should be ok for me.
But please know the input source type detection is for BQ25898D, not for BQ25898. BQ25898 input current limit setting by PSEL pin. No PG pin in BQ25898D.
    Thanks
