LM5022: Flyback transformer auxiliary winding

Part Number: LM5022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP20497,

Dear Sir/Ms.

I refer the PMP20497 to design the power solution.

http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP20497

Vin: 12V~56V

Vout: 55.5V/1A (system load 0A~0.6A)

Can I remove the Flyback transformer auxiliary winding?

Because I remove D2, the system seems work normally.

  • Hi Ronald,

Thank you for using the LM5022. Yes you can remove the auxiliary winding. It just produce a bias voltage so the VCC can take power from this winding instead of the internal VCC regulator (LDO). When you input voltage is 56V, the internal LDO may have more power dissipation. If you want to minimize the power dissipation inside the IC, which is recommended, you should have the aux winding. As said, removing the winding the circuit should work, just a matter of efficiency at high Vin.
