BQ24070: BQ24070 STAT1 line blinking

Part Number: BQ24070

Hello,

I have this circuit connected to a USB charger and a 2P1S Li-Ion battery.  Iset2 is pulled high and Iset1 is terminated with a 1k resistor to limit the USB current to 500mA.

This design has been in the field for over a year and yesterday a customer asked why the charge LED (STAT1) is blinking.  I'm at a loss - can you see any obvious mistakes in component selection?

Several units behaved this way (LED blinks) for a few minutes, then it would stop and not blink (continue to charge) as expected.  Customer had 3 units being charged, each with separate 1A USB chargers.   I can't seem to replicate the problem at the factory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
