BQ24610: Migration from BQ24610 to Bq24630

Part Number: BQ24610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24630

dears,

currently we have a design worked properly with a BQ24610 (21V 4A).

for a problem of life cycle about li-ion, we want to change cells to LIFEPO4 so we change IC BQ24630.

during charge, we have a stop charge after 37 min each time. the problem appears from 33% to 45%.

we don't know how it's could append.

have you got an idea?

thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Raphael,
This seems like it could possibly be related to the inbuilt 30 minute precharge timer. By 33% to 55% I am assuming you are measuring directly at the battery. Can you measure VFB (close to the IC) when charge stops, as well as confirm that STAT pins report a fault? What are your battery specifications?
  • hi Kedar,

    thanks for your reply.

on VFB I have 1,67V according the mesurement on VBAT is 20,16V.

when charging stops, only stat 1 rise up to 3,3V, stat 2 still to 3,3V.

my battery specifications are 6 cells of LIFEPO4 (21.7V max) and a capacity of 5000mAH.

  • Hi Raphael,
As VFB > VLOWV its possible that the charger has entered fast charge safety timer fault. As a check, you can also toggle CE pin and see if charging resumes. STAT1 and STAT2 at 3.3V indicates a fault condition so charger will stop charging. According to your application, you can either increase capacitance at TTC to increase fast charge timer, or pull TTC low to disable timer (Note that this would also disable termination) or pull TTC to VREF which disables fast charge timer but does not disable termination.
Section 8.3.22 of d.s describes different fault conditions that can disable charging, and cause both STAT pins to 3.3V.
