BQ4050: Charging

Part Number: BQ4050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24105,

Hi,

I plan to use bq4050 with the charger bq24105.

In the technical reference - SLUUAQ3, in the section 4.4 (page 30), the charging current can be configured.

So i dont understand, the bq4050 can be used as a linear charger? in this case there is no need in external charger?

Please explain me that.

Best Regards,

Arkadi

No the device can't be used as a charger. Rather the host can read the charging voltage and current needed for the cells and then inform the charger of these. The bq4050 is not a charger
    thanks

  • Hi,

Thank you for your answer. thats what i thought, but section 4.4 in SLUUAQ3  confused me...

So what does the ChargingCurrent() in SLUUAQ3 section 4.4 means?

    There written:

"The Charging Configuration[CRATE] flag provides an option to adjust the ChargingCurrent() based on FullChargeCapacity()/DesignCapacity(). "

    please explain me this section.

    Thank you very much,

    Arkadi

  • You can program different charging voltages and charging currents based on cell temperature in the DF of the gauge. The charging current in RAM reports which charging current was chosen based on the temperature measured. Pls see the Jeita portion of the TRM for further details.

    thanks
