TPS2373-4EVM-758: Front-End Schematic

Part Number: TPS2373-4EVM-758
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2372-3EVM-757

Hi

My customer has question.

The bridge circuit on the front end of the TP2373EVM consists of FETs.

I think that it is common to be composed of diodes. Is there a reason for being composed of FETs?

In the case of the customer who confirmed the current unbalance

previously, changing to the bridge circuit by the diode could improve the phenomenon.

Please tell me if there is a reason to configure the bridge circuit of TPS2373EVM with FET.

Best Regard

  • Hi T Kishi,

For high power PoE applications, high efficiency is an important spec. A diode bridge will dissipate more power than a FET bridge because of the low RDSon versus the voltage drop on the diode. This is why a lot of BT solutions will use FET bridges.

There should be no issue with switching to diode bridge.

There is also a hybrid bridge that uses a FET and diode if looking for a power dissipation loss that less than a diode bridge but more than a FET bridge.
We use it in the TPS2372-3EVM-757
