TPS82084: TPS82084 minimum soft-start time

Part Number: TPS82084
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS82140

I'm considering using the TPS82084 to supply a power rail that has a minimum ramp time of 0.2 ms.  The TPS82084 datasheet lists a typical ramp time of 0.8 ms, but gives no minimum value.  Please could you tell me what the minimum value is?  If not, can you guarantee that it will be greater than 0.2 ms?  I appreciate that the minimum value may depend on the characteristics of the load that it is supplying.

Many thanks for your assistance!

  • Hi Fox,

Thanks for clearly stating your application need.

Since we don't specify a min/max, there is no guarantee that it will be above 200 usec. But generally for an unspecified parameter, like this, we can assume maybe 50% variation. I think you have enough room to your 200 usec minimum value.

This app note, from the product page, also discusses this topic in detail: www.ti.com/.../slyt669.pdf
  • Hi Chris,

Many thanks for your assistance with this.  We require a monotonic rise for the IC powering, so we won't be able to implement the solution suggested in the application note.  It's a great document that I'll bear in mind for the future, however.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for reading. Glad you found it informative.

Either the load switch or TPS82140 would be options for your case, based on what I understand from this thread.
