BQ24780S: BQ24780S Query related

Part Number: BQ24780S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Hi,

We are using Battery Management Studio Software for reading the Smart Battery Status. In the Smart, Battery BQ40Z50R1 is present and from that Gas Gauge IC we were able to read the Battery Status.

In BQstudio Software, There is an option in the tab called "Advanced comm SMB".From this window, we gave the command address and we are reading the data.

While we giving the battery address on this Advanced Comm SMB and click on Read we could able to read the battery charger voltage and current.

But on the same window when we give the Charger IC(Voltage and Current) address and try to read what the charge voltage and charge current is set on the register we could not able to read the data of that register.

Kindly do the Needful.

  • Hi Anandan,

Can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing? It sounds like you're using the gauge's bqz file and trying to use that to read the BQ24780S's register settings. If this is the case, please try using the BQ24780S bqz file instead.

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Hi Angelo,

    Thanks for your response.

we are using one SM bus communication for both the battery and the Charger IC(BQ24780S). While connecting it to the EV2300 and trying to communicate between them, Only the Gas Gauge IC (BQ40Z50R1) window get opened and we are able to read the registers, When trying to open the charger IC window it is displaying a DEVICE ACK ERROR and we could not able to read the Register of charger IC.

    Kindly do the Needful.

    Regards

  • Hi Anandan,

Are you using an EVM or your own circuit? Please make sure your setup matches Figure 2 below from the User's Guide. In particular, make sure you have the 3.3 V power supply connected. This is important because the 3.3 V power supply serves as the pull-up rail for SDA and SCL.

If that doesn't resolve your issue, then please let me know what version of Windows and BQStudio you're using.

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Hi Angelo,

    Thanks for the Response.

We are using BQ24780S-EVM for our smart battery testing.we are using the same SM Bus communication for both smart charger and Battery communication.

Our Test setup connections resemble the same as the Image Represented on your previous thread.

We are using Battery Management Studio(1.3.86) and we are using Windows 8.

FYI:-The SM bus of both Battery and Smart Charger is connected on the EVM and from this while using we are able to read the battery Register, But not the Charger IC EVM.

Expecting Your reply at the earliest.

  • Hi Anandan,

The EV2300 is not supported for 64-bit Windows (Windows 7 and newer). You can try installing the unofficial EV2300 drivers for 64-bit Windows here to see if that resolves your issue: e2e.ti.com/.../458983
