BQ24707A: What is the max charge current?

When comparing max charge currents of different battery ICs, this part is listed as supporting up to 10A. However, I don't see any mention of supporting more than 8A in the datasheet. What is the max charge current for this part?

Hi,

With a 10 mΩ sense resistor, the max charge current is 8.128 A (same as the BQ24707). Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention.

Thanks, Angelo. Does that mean with a smaller sense resistor, the part can support higher charger currents? Are there any limiting factors from using the chip up to 10A?

Hi,

Yes, higher charge currents are possible if you use a sense resistor smaller than the default 10 mΩ value. The downside is that the current regulation accuracy will be worse. This is because with a small sense resistor, the noise can potentially be higher than the actual voltage drop across the sense resistor, causing the regulation to be inaccurate.
