BQ25606: WRONG STATUS - STAT LED BLINK

Part Number: BQ25606

Hi,

Recently,I used BQ25606 in my project, the part of schematics are as follows:

In fact, The VBUS  using a adapter :12V/1A。The battery is 2600mAh.

usually, sys load current about 300-500mA,LED Foward Voltage is about 2V,The charging current is close enough to the setting value,I've measure PMID about 11.9V,REGN is 6V,TS is 3V,but,when I charged a battey which initial voltage is about 3.5V,the stat LED and PG status is correct, after charged 8 hour or more, the STAT LED Blinking at 1Hz, at this time, the VBAT Voltage is close enough to 4.2V,PMID still about 11.9V,REGN is 6V,TS is 3V,if I remove the same battery and plug in again quickly ,after a while, the stat LED back to normal , stat indicator is HIGH,I‘m  confused !! why?? Why does timer fault  happen ?Even if I increase the charging current to 1A,this situation still exists. By the way,the D+ D- do not connect anaything. Why does timer fault  happen  ?

Best Regards

  • Hi Peng,

The issue causing STAT1 to blink and reporting fault is safety timer fault. From Timing Requirements of EC table, Typical charge safety timer is between 8hrs and 12 hrs, with a nominal range of 10hrs.

  • Hi ,Kedar

I know it is a timer fault case, but I don't know why it would happen .The charging current is set to 520mA,even  1A,both happened blinking. The battery is only 2600mAh.

    Regards,

    Peng

  • Hi Peng,

Safety timer is a backup safety mechanism in case of damaged cell that will never reach charge complete. Can you replace battery cell? Can you plot a full charge cycle? Measure charge current and charge regulation voltage with new battery. What is voltage on battery when you remove it and measure?

  • Hi ,Kedar

I‘ve’ replaced more than 8 batteries. at the beginning of the battery is 3.5V. When the STAT LED blinking,I re-plug the batter(before re-plug , I have measured the Battery voltage at this time,it's close to 4.2V) or  the VBUS adapter, after re-plug , the STAT LED back to nomal ,constantly Light up again, after a mean while(Less than five minutes), the light is off. It looks like the device automatically starts a new charging cycle.

    Regards,

    Peng

  • I think the problem is in the adapter, the adapter  is based on the Primary side regulated flyback AC-DC ,most of the time, the load current has 200-300mA,the adapter Load Transient not good enough, especially in Light load。

  • Peng,

Thanks for your update. The thread is considered solved and closed.
