BQ76200: BQ76200 EVM design refernece

Part Number: BQ76200

Hi

I have designed a circuit using Bq76200 IC based on the reference design and i need to know whether the evaluuation modules design can handle more than 15A of current like when connected to a 1 kw motor as the load and 10 A charger to the charger port.

thank you

  • Hi Shaheen,

The BQ76200EVM-606 user guide indicates maxmum current is 15A.  This rating was for a lab environment at room temperature.  The current for your motor of course depends on the system voltage.  If you have a 50V system you may be looking at discharge currents of 20A.  You may note that the parts used on the EVM have higher ratings, the effective rating or current limit will depend on the operating environment and the design to get heat out of the FETs. Of course the use profile of the product has an effect also, a system which runs continuously will have to handle the heat load continuously while a system with intermittent use would have more time to cool.  The simple answer is yes, but it depends on several factors.
