  • Hi Vyshnav,

typically, the maximum operating junction temperature for these devices as well as their thermal resistances are given in the corresponding datasheets.
The derating can be calculated for each device using these parameters together with the application specific power dissipation.

  • Hi Björn,

Thank you so much for your quick response. I'll checkout the same. Any formula is there to find deration from thermal characteristics..?

    Regards,

    Vyshnav Krishnan

  • Hi Vyshnav,

it can be calculated using ohms law - but with temperatures and thermal resistances instead of voltages and ohmic resistances.

    An example:

    Datasheet Values:
    - Thermal resistance Junction to Case: 50°C/W
    - Maximum operating Junction temperature: 125°C

    Design specific values:
    - Case Temperature: 70°C

    Resulting maximum permissible power dissipation:

    (125°C - 70°C) / 50°C/W = 1.1W abs. max.

  • Dear Bjoern Goerner,

Thank you. I will follow the  same steps to find derating characteristics for the other IC's as well.

    Best Regards,

    Vyshnav Krishnan
