UCC28180: PSPICE model to be used by Altium Designer

Hello,

I was trying to use altium designer to simulate the UCC28180 given its PSPICE model on the Website of TI. However and after several Trials, the avg.sim file isn't accepted by altium. Is there a solution for that please?

The model of UCC28180 can also be found in Tina-TI. When one Right clicks on it then "enter macro" one can reach to the netlist then save it to a Format suitable for Altium e.g. ".ckt or .cir". However, the netlist file includes this sentence "* Encrypted macro. Content can't be viewed". Does this mean that the macro is still inside the saved file .cir and functioning but only can be read by the Simulator e.g. Altium or SIMPLIS or anyother?

Hi Amr,

Altium can import PSpice models. Please contact Altium support for help in installing PSpice models into your Altium simulation. We do not provide Altium simulation models. Please remember that you will need the unencrypted version of the PSpice model to import it into any simulator. TI does provide a free simulator (TINA-TI) that can be used to simulate almost all of the devices supported on TI's website.

If a part is supported in WEBENCH®, you also can use WEBENCH® to create your design and export it to Altium. You need to install the WEBENCH extension in Altium. Following is the link which provides more details WEBENCH Altium Connector and how to install it.

Hi Teng,

Thank you very much for your support. The issue of PSPICE is yes to be solved with Altium.

With regard to webbench, unfortunately all IC's I need (UCC24612 , UCC256301 and UCC28180) can't be simulated or exported to any Simulation Programm including TINA. For example if you open the following design which is one of the webbench designs that use UCC28180, the design can't be either simulated or exported. This issue exists with all other designs that include the above mentioned IC's.

The UCC28180 has some models in TINA which can be directly used there. However the other two parts have only SIMPLIS model but no other models even for TINA, webbench then Export, or other.

It would be great if you would please offer some solution to that.

Hi Amr,

Unfortunately, there are no PSpice module of UCC24612 and UCC25601 available, TI also can't provide them to you at the moment.

For question why you can't use WEBENCH® to simulation UCC28180 and export it to Altium, I will see if I can get one of Webench team to answer this question.

hi,

Because of the presence of the common mode choke in the schematic, WEBENCH does not have the ability to export to Altium. This is a current limitation with the tool - where if there are transformers or common mode chokes are present, then WEBENCH will not be able to export to Altium.
