BQ4050: coloumb counter ADC

Part Number: BQ4050

Hello,

We configured the BQ4050 to measure currents of 40uA, by increasing the sense resistor.

The load current profile is a square wave of  200mS with 5% duty cycle.

On time = 10mS@800uA

Off time= 190mS@45uA

 -> Average of ~82uA.

Would the bq4050 be able to measure current (and as a result count properly the coulombs), when there are such narrow pulses ?

Regards,

Arkadi

  • Hi Arkadi

I would be very hesitant doing this as this is not how our chips was originally designed to operate. There  is an app note written for a different device doing similar stuff like what you are trying to do. The gauge may be able to do it, but you can only verify this from testing your design.

    thanks

  • Hi,

    Thank you!

We made our design according to this app note (you sent it to us a few months ago).

We see that bq4050 measures currents of ~40uA, as we configured it. So, it operates as designed.

The question is whether it would be able to measure such load current profile, as described above?

we plan to check this profile in a few weeks, and for now we would like to know if theoretically bq4050 will manage to measure it, or maybe we have to do something..

    Regards,

    Arkadi
