UCC28740: Design Calculator Secondary Current Question

Part Number: UCC28740
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28711

Hello there,

I have opened up another form regarding this part, but I have a different question regarding the Design Calculator (Rev. B) tool (for the following transformer https://katalog.we-online.de/ctm/datasheet/750871011.pdf). I have finished filling out my design (attached) but I now notice on the "SCHEMATIC AND BoM" tab, that my peak secondary current is quite large, larger than any available transformer I have seen on DigiKey. My concern regarding this current is that the peak load current I have designed for is 1A, and the peak ripple current through the capacitor is 1.711A. By KCL, the maximum current the transformer should supply is 2.711A. Is there something within the design I am not considering here?

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Best Regards,

Chris

  • Hello,

Generally you can't find the custom transformers you need on Digi-key.  However, the 5 V 5 W application is quite standard.

The  following link will get you to a 5V 5W evaluation module using the ucc28711.  The transformer in this design made from Wurth could work in your design.

The transformer part number is included in the User's guide.

    Regards,
