LP8556: SEPIC operation of LP8556

Part Number: LP8556

Hi.

Can the LP8556 be used in a sepic configuration?

Many thanks,

Mark.

  • Hi Mark,

We haven't verified the SEPIC topology with LP8556 and we don't recommend this way. Can you share me your detail requirement? Maybe I can give you better solution.

    Regards

    Sean

  • Hi Sean.

    Thanks for responding.

We're reviewing a new design, (not mine!), and this device has been included, running off a 12V input, .... to drive LED strings that drop about 8.6V minimum.... Oops!  Hence my question about using it in a sepic configuration. There are two strings, each running at about 200mA.  We COULD just run it from 5V instead of 12V -  that just seems a bit unituitive as the 5V is derived from the 12V anyway.

I'm just curious why its not recommended - is it just that it hasn't been tried, or maybe the control loop isn't suited to the transfer function of the sepic?

    Many thanks,

    Mark.

  • Hi Mark,

Yes, thanks for sharing the detail information, since we have not evaluate the loop or topology with LP8556 so we can't guarantee that topology, so there are some risk,we don't recommend.

    Regards
