BQ25703A: COMP1 & COMP2 Pins

Part Number: BQ25703A

Is there more information available on pins 16 & 17, COMP1 & COMP2? The datasheet says to reference the EVM for the RC network. The EVM schematic only lists the values used. Beyond that, I do not see any other information on these pins in the datasheet nor the EVM guide. I understand these are compensation for the buck boost converter but would like to know why the specific values in the RC network were chosen and if the values should be modified for specific applications.

  • Hey Thomas,

In general, we do not recommend changing the values of the COMP1 and COMP2 components. These have been specifically chosen to make all regulation loops (charging, battery voltage, input current limit, etc.) stable across the entire operating range of the charger (VBUSmin to VBUSmax, VBATmin to VBATmax). Modifying the networks could have unintended impacts to the stability of the one or more of the loops.

The only consideration we have for the network based on component selection is found here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/871078

It will describe how to adjust the resistance in the COMP2 RC network if using a different inductance value than 2.2uH.

    Regards,

    Joel H
