TPS1663: Necessity of Cout when used with modules

Part Number: TPS1663
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2662,

Hello,

We are using TPS2662 and TPS1663 on a backplane.

About the system:

24V +-10%

TPS2662 is set to 0.8A

TPS1663 is set to 6A

Cdvdt is 1uF.

What should the value of Cout be, is it really needed?

Modules have between 1-20uF on the module power input and they can be plugged in and out both before startup and after.

  • Hi Westlund,

There is no hard requirement on the output cap for the eFuse. It is basically driven by the needs of the downstream load. Actually, lower Cout is always better as it reduces stress on the device during startup. However, I suggest to use at least 1 uF ceramic capacitor at the output as it helps to reduce the Vout slew-rates during fast transients at Vout and also to provide noise filtering.
