BQ28Z610-R1: FW, .bqz file, differences with -R0 and other information

Part Number: BQ28Z610-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610, BQSTUDIO,

Hello,

Currently my Company is using the BQ28Z610 in its lines of batteries for portable devices.

I have just requested the samples of that IC and I would like that someone will reply to the following questions:

  1. when will the BQ28Z610 be stopped to be distributed?
  2. what are the detailed differences with BQ28Z610? (I have noticed of some protections parameters added .....)
  3.  why is not the firmware available on line like its predecessor BQ28Z610?
  4. If not possible to proceed at a direct download, where I can find the FW and the .bqz file for bqstudio?
  5. are the learned parameters of BQ28Z610compatible with the -R1 parameters? (I hope to do not do again the learning cycles I did already.....)

Thanks for your help!

Maurizio

when will the BQ28Z610 be stopped to be distributed?

[Andy]  I don't see any confirmed date for now. I would suggest you upgrade to BQ28z610-R1 since BQ28z610-R1 has improved hardware and also it should have improved firmware as well.

why is not the firmware available on line like its predecessor BQ28Z610?

If not possible to proceed at a direct download, where I can find the FW and the .bqz file for bqstudio?

Here the srec and bqz file.

I think so.  I would suggest you perform a charge and discharge cycle to check the SOC accuracy after importing the gg file.

  • Thanks Andy for replies at my question.

Do you know if there is any document explaining what's changed/improved from R0 to R1?

I have looked for it, but I have found just a general notice about improved HW and FW like you told in the reply.

We will check our stocks and will go to the newest type.

    bye

  • Hello again Andy,

I have downloaded both .srec and .bqz files and with my big surprise I have noticed that I have them both already.

Let me to tell my experience.

We started with the BQ28Z610 that has the firmware v0.17 but later on the web site I found the v0.20 Build 25 and I use that for the golden.srec uploaded in every boards: we have several golden files depending by the cells types and their combinations (we know that the BQ28Z610 in our stock have the v0.17 embedded, but we don't care, the golden.srec overwrites it!).

Together the FW, with the "v0.20 Build 25" installation package, it was also distributed the "2610_20-bq28z610.bqz" file for bqStudio (later included in the bqStudio installation).

Then, I am wondering what is really that R1 update. Please detail as most as you can to allow me to understand all this 'mess'.

    Thanks again...

    Maurizio

  • Hi Maurizio,

I guess I uploaded the wrong firmware and bqz file yesterday.

    Here are the correct files.

Also, the following thread should be useful to you.

  • Thanks Andy.

Now they seem the right one.

In any case, samples of R1 have arrived, I can check installing one of them on the board
