UCC28910: ICE3BR0665J replacement

Part Number: UCC28910
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28911

hi team,

My customer is looking for integrated MOS flyback solution like competitor ICE3BR0665J, and they have three kind of input 18-58VDC、88-275VDC、170-275VAC, the power for each kind is about 3-6W.

Besides the UCC28910, what's the recommendation for this? (P2P replacement would be better)

Thanks!

James

  • Hello James,

Thank you for your interest in the UCC28910 flyback controller with integrated switching FET.

TI does not have a pin-to-pin replacement for the competitor part.
The UCC28910 is a primary-side regulated (PSR) controller whereas the ICE3 part is secondary-side regulated with opto-coupler feedback.  Although not as accurate as the shunt-regulated approach, the UCC28910 will can deliver +/-5% regulation at lower cost and complexity.

It can be suitable for the 88-275Vdc and 170-275Vac applications, but may not start properly for the 18-58Vdc application.  There is a high-voltage start-up JFET whose current is characterized only at 100V.  Lower voltages will have lower start-up currents, although the relationship is not linear.  Anecdotally, drain voltages as low as 30V could still charge up VDD to power up similar PSR devices, but lower than that is really unknown.  The start-up time may extend excessively long or may never start.

For better thermal margin at a 6-W load, the UCC28911 can also be considered.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
