EV2400: EVM2400 dies while logging.

Part Number: EV2400
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ34Z100,

While doing a reliability/recovery test of a bq34Z100-G1 device attached and fed by a PbA battery, I discharged the battery to a very low value (almost 0,under load), while logging events with EVM2400 / bq studio.

After a ramp up of the battery, the bq34Z100-G1 is still working,  but the EVM2400 has become unresponsive / defective. LEDs are still working, but no I2C connection.

The EVM2400 was still fed by USB from the computer, and some current may have flowed from the USB port, through the I2C connection (3.3V) and the LDO of the bq34Z100 board (backwards) to the battery.  This could not be more than 100mA (but for several hours).

It would surprise me when the EVM2400 wasn't protected against this. What else can cause this behaviour ? Is there a trade in program ? Wouldn't it be better to cut the 3.3V line to the I2C port alltogether ? The bq34Z100 will always be powered from the battery anyway.
