TPS50601A-SP: TPS50601AHKH/EM - Failure Issue :

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP

Hi

TI order # - T00701598

We've got a failure report from end user.

I bought TPS50601AHKH/EM from TI Store directly.

howver, all 6pcs are not working normally.

I attached failure report. please review and give us your solutions - kinds of Replacement or Refund which you can support.

Project schedule is very urgent.

Hope your fastest feedback.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

We are reviewing your documents now and will get back to soon with any suggestions.

    Thanks

    Christian

  • Slide 7 of power point indicates a load current of 8amps.  The maximum recommended operating condition of this device is 6Amps.  Please confirm the device is being used to supply 6Amps or less.

Also, with board not powered and sourced with any signals can you use an ohm meter to measure between PVIN and PH pins?

    Thanks,

    Christian

  • Hi Christian
kindly thanks for your feedback. :)
    on Power point 7page,
End user only refer to TI simulation example and they didn’t change resistance.
    Actual electric current was 1.5A.
Between PVIN and PH resistance is 120~121Kohm when measuring by using digital multimeter.
if it is chip failure issue, we really hope to get exchange for all 6pcs as project schedule.
also, because of time zone difference, we wasted of time every single day.
After reviewing, Please give us your solution ASAP - other suggestion or Replacement.
    thanks.
  • Hi again,

I don't think replacing the devices will help anything. The fact that 6 devices all fail in the same manner indicates that something is systematically incorrect.   Can you please provide a schematic of the hardware being testing as well as the test setup sequencing.   Also, a layout of the PCB could be helpful.  If you do not want to share this information publicly please contact me privately on this forum and we can communicate offline via email.

Please provide your design targets for the two applications mentioned:

    -PVIN (5V)

    -VOUT (3.3V, 1V)

    -ILOADmax (for each rail)

-Total parallel ESR of total output capacitance installed on PCB

    -Output Current Ripple target

    -Output Voltage Ripple target

Also, please provide oscilloscope screen shots of the power up cycle of the POL capturing signals at (1) PVIN pins 6/7 (2)  SS/TR pin 19 (3) COMP in 18 (4) PH pins 11-15.

    Thanks

    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

    Please review an attached file.

this is all that I can provide you.

because of this issue, we've faced with production delay and serious than expected.

    Super urgent...

Sorry, we dont have much time.

Please review and give us your last solution.

currently, I think it is not my fault and parts are not working normally.

The best solution is replacement for all 6pcs.

Hope your best support and reply me ASAP.

    thanks.

  • Hi,

Your design shows 2 POLs/system so 6 failing POLs implies three systems have failed, correct?  Do you have other identical systems that have not failed and that are working as expected?  If so how many?

Could you please isolate each POL from all loads by lifting EMI17 on FPGA+3.3VD and EMI14 on FPGA+1.0VD and remeasure output voltages of POLs and look at switching node on oscope?

If you wish to return devices there is a procedure to follow shown at  https://www.ti.com/support-quality/additional-information/customer-returns.html.

    Thanks

    Christian

  • Moving correspondence to email and closing this thread.

  • Dear Christian,

    Hi,

Please kindly check the power point page on 17~18.

Let me explain and give you the answer for each.

They used this part several times steadily with same way in the past.

At that time, there was no issue and worked normally.

Only this time, this kinds of issue occurred.

I expected that 6pcs all are not working normally..it is kinds of faulty products temporarily

If you agree, I hope to get replacement ASAP.

schedule is urgent as I keep telling you.

when I get your replacement confirmation, please send me your E2E forum link between me and you.

“Your design shows 2 POLs/system so 6 failing POLs implies three systems have failed, correct? They tested 2 boards – 1.5V & 3.3V each 3pcs. But both are all 6pcs failed.

Do you have other identical systems that have not failed and that are working as expected? If so how many? Nothing, all failed.

Could you please isolate each POL from all loads by lifting EMI17 on FPGA+3.3VD and EMI14 on FPGA+1.0VD and remeasure output voltages of POLs and look at switching node on oscope?”

    Please see the page 17~18.

Let me wait for your feedback again.

    thanks.

  • Hi Christian,

did you review and give us any update now?

  • Hi, Christian,

to exchange for 6pcs all, we need to get engineer's verification from TI Customer support center.

Could you please let me know the verication number?

at the personal mail, for your questions...please check below answers.

#From your previous responses below, its seems this is a new system PCB that has never been tested.  Is this correct?  If this PCB has never been tested how certain are you there is not an error in the layout of the PCB?  Have you removed the POL devices and verified that there are no faulty connections in the PCB layout?

= we all shared with you about PLO Circuit diagrams and layout PPT files. When you review the diagram, if there is some problems in design, Please give us the solutions.

#Can you please check that feedback resistors are correctly connected to VSENSE pin and that there is no PCB issues with this path (RF1, RF2, RF3, RF4).

= PPT page on 14, after removing PLO, When supplying 1.1V and 3.3V by using DC Power supply machine, there is no problem. 1.1V and 3.3V is the lowest voltage than PLO maximum 6V.

we checked most carefully Vsence pin, also there was no issue and DCDC and LDO are working normally.

=I am sorry we dont understand about RF1~4.

As I informed you continuously, schedule is very urgent. although we gave you all answers with files, actually we cannot find any solutions so far.

also because of time zone difference, wasted of a day.
Please confirm ASAP about exchage 6pcs all.

    thanks.
