BQ76952: High side vs Low side FET switching

Hi,

This is regarding CHG & DSG FET wiring in circuitry. As referenced in Typical Application section of the datasheet, they are placed on High-side of Battery pack.

So, my doubt is if its possible to use FETs on Low-side. If yes, are there any additional parameters or components I will have to consider.

Hi Anurag,

You cannot use the high-side drivers in the device to directly drive low-side FETs. However, you can use the DCHG/DDSG logic-level signals to control an external gate driver for low-side FETs.

Hi Terry,

One more doubt I have is that how much important it is to use chemical fuse with recommended FET circuitry.

Is it possible to omit this circuitry by using an external Fuse in series with Load line?

Hi Anurag,

The BQ76952 does not require the use of the chemical fuse, it will support it if needed in the system. Some users will want the chemical fuse, others will use a conventional fuse. Check your system requirements.
